Diabetes Kills MORE People Every Year than HIV | AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria – COMBINED.
Yet it Rarely Makes Headlines.
What makes this disease particularly devastating is that diabetes has proven to be a highly manageable disease – if diagnosed early and provided appropriate treatment.
Sadly, most people who live in underdeveloped nations lack access to the basic medical care desperately needed to screen, treat, and prvent Diabetes.

| A PROVEN GLOBAL STRATEGY
The objectives of the Program are to increase general awareness of Type 2 Diabetes, lower the rate of incidence, improve quality of life for those afflicted, and reduce the immense costs attributed with the disease.
Our Innovative program centers around Community Care Givers (CCG’s) who build relationships with the patients through regular face-to-face consultations. Through these relationships, our CCG’s can educate patients about Type 2 Diabetes while monitoring the progress of disease management through compliance with prescribed medications and suggested lifestyle modifications.
Dr. Barry Bunting, a member of our Board of Directors, was the architect and original director for the Asheville Project.
Dr. Bunting’s approach to the management of Diabetes has been successfully implemented by many self-insured companies and municipalities throughout the US. Participants experienced dramatic reductions in employee healthcare costs, while the general health of employees afflicted with Type 2 Diabetes increased significantly.
The program’s repeated success has drawn national praise and attention from media outlets such as the New York Times and NBC Nightly News.

AN EFFECTIVE
MODEL OF CARE.
SCREENING
Working with local doctors, nurses and our network of community care givers, The Root Cause™ identifies key locations to establish screening sites and public health clinics that will most effectively serve the greatest number of patients.
Results from our beta test sites in rural India found that 85% of the population was afflicted with Type 2 Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes. Of those afflicted with the disease, 97% were completely unaware of their condition.
TREATMENT
Using the treatment plan proven in The Asheville Project, each patient who is determined to have diabetes or pre-diabetes is assigned to a local heath care professional – usually a nurse or pharmacist – who he or she will meet with on a regular basis (ideally every 3 months) for coaching toward better health.
During each session, individuals are provided basic diabetes education, have their blood pressure and blood sugar levels checked, and are able to determine the effectiveness of any diabetes medication they may be taking.
PREVENTION
Most people in developing countries don’t have a firm grasp on what diabetes is, much less how to prevent getting it. That’s why one of the most important things we can do is first educate the population on how to live healthy lives.
One way this is being done in India is through the production of an educational film to be shown in rural areas featuring government leaders and Bollywood stars, as well as a patient who is in critical condition as a result of type 2 diabetes.
